Science for emerging environmental challenges
Challenges and opportunities related to the environment keep emerging in our rapidly changing world. At UKCEH, we are continuously horizon scanning to consider what science will be needed to address these issues.
These emerging challenges complement the core ten integrated issues highlighted in our Strategy 2024. They may relate to new scientific methods and technologies, new problems that need solving, new ways of working across sectors and disciplines, accelerated rates of impact, or heightened levels of awareness.
For example, emerging issues include the pressing need for us to develop sustainable cities, the growing challenges presented by microplastics pollution, and the revolution brought about by artificial intelligence, remote sensing and related technologies.
