Dr Lindsay F Banin is a plant and ecosystem scientist at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology in Edinburgh. Her research focuses on the structure, function and dynamics of plant communities, with a particular spotlight on Southeast Asian forests. Lindsay's work is concerned with impacts of environmental change, including land-use, climate and biogeochemical changes, on plant function, and how changes in the landscape affect the delivery of key ecosystem processes and services including carbon sequestration. Her work also emphasises evidence-based, equitable approaches to forest conservation and restoration.
She leads the FOR-RESTOR network which brings together international experts on Southeast Asian forest restoration. Lindsay has a strong interest in statistical methods, applying these to experimental and monitoring design and analysis of field-based and image-based data. Through this interdisciplinary work she aims to develop data science tools to help tackle environmental science’s most pertinent questions and challenges.
