Professional summary
Rick has a background in ecology and as a GIS and data specialist working on the large-scale, long-term monitoring programmes Countryside Survey 2000 and 2007 as well the Farm scale evaluations of herbicide tolerant genetically modified crops. These large data-intensive programmes led into cross organisational approaches to stewardship of data and helping to set up the NERC national data centre for terrestrial and freshwater sciences. He currently manages the UKCEH Data Stewardship Team, coordinating efforts across the organisation to promote FAIR data principles along with other good practice research data stewardship activities which help build UKCEH's science capabilities for effective use and re-use of resources. He also is part of the management team for the NERC national data centre for terrestrial and freshwater sciences, the Environmental Information Data Centre, part of the NERC Environmental Data Service.

The UKCEH Data Stewardship Team have successfully implemented a domain-specific FAIR Data Stewardship Wizard tool to UKCEH and are developing a similar tool to implement across the NERC Environmental Data Service for supporting NERC grant holders.
