Professional summary
Susan is a quantitative ecologist interested in how we can best monitor our environment to understand ecological patterns and changes. She is particularly interested in how to use multiple sources of data on our environment together e.g. traditional survey data alongside citizen science. Much of her recent work has been to develop and apply statistical methods to integrate multiple types of ecological and environmental data. She has applied these methods to both terrestrial (butterflies) and freshwater (water quality) data and apply these approaches across science areas.
Her background is in fungal ecology, and she is sometimes able to apply her quantitative skills on the taxa she knows most about. Susan's other main area of interest is in how best to collect new data, particularly thinking about how to optimise data collection to consider where and when data will add most value. She has worked at UKCEH since 2013 and is a member of the Land Use group.
