Professional summary
Shinji joined UKCEH in July 2022 and has since progressed his research as a Vertebrate Ecotoxicologist. He mainly works on the Predatory Bird Monitoring Scheme (PBMS), and his role in the PBMS is statistically analysing the data and disseminating the results. Based on the PBMS data, he assesses temporal and spatial changes in the exposure of predatory birds to various chemical contaminants, such as heavy metals (e.g., Cd, Pb), pesticides (e.g., second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides), and PBT substances (e.g., PCBs, PBDEs, PFAS). He also estimates the impact of the contaminants on the bird population and determines possible environmental and biological parameters influencing the exposure. The results of these analyses are published in various forms, such as reports, scientific papers, and oral/poster presentations at meetings or international conferences.
