Lord Cameron of Dillington leaves his role as Chair of the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) on 30 November, after announcing his retirement last year. This follows five years in the role.
Lord Cameron has worked with UKCEH since 2015, when he became chair of the organisation’s advisory committee, prior to its independence from UK Research and Innovation.
In 2017, he became chair of the committee overseeing UKCEH’s successful transition to an independent, not-for-profit research institute; and then went on to become the first Chair of the Board of trustees in 2019.
In October, staff from across all sites gathered to bid farewell to Lord Cameron as he made his last visit to Wallingford. He spent the first part of his visit meeting early career researchers and learning about their research and its impact.
Dr Stuart Wainwright, Chief Executive of UKCEH, said: “I can speak on behalf of all colleagues in thanking Lord Cameron for his enthusiastic support over the last decade. Firstly, as a member of the CEH Advisory Board and then leading the transfer from UKRI to independence as UKCEH, a key milestone for the institute.
"He has been a true advocate for UKCEH, and his experience, interest and warmth will be greatly missed.”
Lord Cameron expressed his huge admiration for all the world-class science carried out at UKCEH and its enormous relevance in addressing major issues of our time.
He said: “It has been a privilege to chair UKCEH, and I am immensely proud of the organisation! I have learned so much from the wonderful colleagues I have worked with over the years, and I wish them every success for the future."
