Professional summary
Gianni is a researcher in the Hydrological Forecasting group at UKCEH, focused on the development of the Flood Estimation Handbook (FEH): an industry-standard set of methods for estimating rainfall and river flood frequency relationships that is in widespread operational use in the UK. He has expertise in rainfall-runoff modelling, statistical modelling of rainfall and flood flow rates and volumes, and experience in communicating results and recommendations to policy-making, academic and technical audiences.
Gianni works closely with other organisations to translate scientific advances in the Flood Estimation Handbook into software packages, services and guidance. In addition to this, he has extensive experience on nature-based solutions (NbS) and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), particularly green roofs, and has recently collaborated on development of a nature-based solutions and flow routing adaptation to a gridded rational method for peak flow estimation.
