Short course description:
UKCEH's GWAVA (Global Water Availability Assessment) model provides integrated analysis of water supply and demand at national to continental scales. GWAVA can be configured with both locally sourced data and global databases, making it ideal for application in data-sparse regions. Tailored scenarios can be modelled to give projections of future changes to water availability, along with consequential impacts.
This interactive course will teach you the knowledge and skills you need to develop a large-scale hydrological model using a combination of presentations and practical exercises.
Learning outcome:
By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and skills to apply the GWAVA model to a river catchment of your choosing.

Level:
Previous knowledge of modelling concepts and handling data (excel, GIS) would be an advantage/ beneficial.
You need to have an understanding of water resources and basic hydrological modelling to benefit from this course.

Hardware and software requirements:
UKCEH will provide you with a copy of the GWAVA model. You will need to install the GWAVA model on your computer. We will give you detailed instructions how to do this.
Accommodation:
The cost of accommodation is not included in the course fee. Should it be an in-person training based in Wallingford, you may find our Wallingford location and accommodation guide (update Sep 2022) useful to give you an indication of accommodation cost.
