We exist to advance the vital environmental science that governments, businesses, NGOs, and researchers rely on to meet the great challenges of our time, contributing substantially to achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals. For more than 30 years, UKCEH scientists have collaborated with a range of partners in West Africa, such as environmental policymakers, meteorological services, water management authorities, universities and conservation organisations, to jointly address the major environmental challenges in the region.

Our West Africa Office is located on the campus of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Accra, Ghana. The office is our hub for developing and delivering collaborative scientific projects and maintaining strategic relationships with local, national and regional stakeholders across West Africa.

Why work with us?

  • Expert: We have extensive experience in the translation of environmental science to impact which we can bring to projects to build the capacity of West African research, enhance operational activities such as forecasting floods, and support policy development in line with national, regional and global commitments.
  • Collaborative: We are committed to building equitable, sustained and reciprocal partnerships. Our current project partners include the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), Ghana Meteorological Agency, ANACIM, AGRA, and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
  • Impactful: Our collaborations aim to balance innovative global approaches with local solutions.

Join us in shaping a sustainable future to make a difference together!
