Vacancy: Regional Science Coordinator

Purpose

To contribute to the planning, management, and delivery of science area or corporate science business operations through the coordination of information, people and activities. You will have responsibility for specific delegated tasks (planned and responsive) and ensure their effective and timely delivery via accessing, collating, and analysing science and business information. There is a strong requirement to collaborate within and across teams in UKCEH in Science and Professional Services and at all levels of the business.

Essential accountabilities

  • Provide high-quality insight, knowledge and information to support the Science leadership in delivering effective, and joined up delivery of tasks across science business administration and operations.
  • Maintain or obtain information from corporate systems in order to deliver reports, briefings and analyses of Science information demonstrating an understanding of the wider significance to UKCEH. Including science area or cross-science area level project details; science outputs, highlights, and achievements; staffing and resource allocations; management of specific science management budgets; science infrastructure and capital information.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, to deliver high quality information, guidance and advice relating to the management of science operations.
  • Play an active role in the delivery of science communications and information sharing
  • Play an active role in the organisation and delivery of relevant internal and external meetings pertaining to the management of science.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality information, guidance and advice to the Science Leadership
  • Ensure compliance and delivery of key corporate science deliverables in or across Science Areas
  • Support the development of reports, policies, processes, or other outputs which deliver a significant positive impact to UKCEH corporate science operations or projects.
  • Support the UKCEH Regional Head – West Africa in the operational running of the Accra office.
  • Facilitate visits of UKCEH staff to the region, including the provision of local assistance where appropriate.
  • Work with colleagues from across the organisation to translate information about UKCEH’s scientific project, skills and service into a West African context and communicate this to partners, funders and other stakeholders.

Salary: Negotiable but commensurate with skills, abilities and experience. Two-year(s) initial appointment with a possibility of renewal.

Indicative knowledge/experience

  • Science degree or equivalent level of experience of research science administration.
  • Excellent presentation, communication skills, able to compile and provide communication material for all levels of the business and non-technical experts.
  • Strong analytical skills, and experience of relevant Microsoft or other programmes.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK research landscape and funders.
