Make a donation to support our science

When you donate to UKCEH through https://www.justgiving.com/UKCEH  you are helping us to provide evidence-based solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. Together people and nature can thrive, and your gift will help that to happen.

More than 96 per cent of your donation will go to UKCEH or to the specific UKCEH campaign you choose. If you give money to the UKCEH general fund, your donation will be allocated to one of our live campaigns at the discretion of the trustees, wherever the need is greatest.

The ‘stories’ on the individual campaign pages give you more detail, what item or activity your donation to a specific campaign will go towards.

If you are eligible for UK Gift-aided donations, you can tick the appropriate box during the donation process. Just Giving will then collect the Gift Aid from HMRC on behalf of UKCEH, 25 pence extra for every pound you donate. UKCEH will receive 95% of the reclaimed Gift Aid.

Please note, overseas donations are excluded from the option to Gift Aid the donation.

Surplus funds – it is unlikely that the donations received would exceed the needs for a specific campaign. However, should this happen, UKCEH will then allocate your donation to a ‘secondary purpose’, that is for the benefit of another live campaign. 

If the donations raised are not enough to pay for the purpose indicated on a campaign page, UKCEH will then allocate your donation to a ‘secondary purpose’, that is for the benefit of another live campaign.

UKCEH will manage all donations following finance and accountancy good practice and in accordance with all relevant UK law. UKCEH will report donations and Gift Aid received separately, according to law and the requirements of the UK Charity commission.

How do I know the impact of my donation?

You can download our Annual Report & Accounts, which highlights the key impacts of UKCEH science each year. We constantly strive to improve the way we measure the environmental, economic and social impacts of our science.

Our campaigns have newsletters, which can give you a broader idea of our research activities.

Purpose of this information

For the purposes of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016 ("Data Protection Law"), UKCEH are a "data controller". UKCEH is responsible for the processing of your personal information when you make a donation. 

What is the legal basis for UKCEH processing your personal information?

UKCEH has a basis to use your personal information if it is reasonably necessary for us to do so and in our “legitimate interests”.  Whenever we process your personal information under the 'legitimate interest' lawful basis we make sure that we consider your rights and interests and will not process your personal information if we feel that there is an imbalance.

Some examples of a legitimate interest are when we:

• Contact people who have previously supported UKCEH where there is reason to expect they may wish to support again
• Claim Gift Aid to boost your donation
• Contact prospective supporters by post or email where information in the public domain indicates possible interest in supporting UKCEH
• Conduct research to better understand who our supporters are

What personal information will UKCEH process?

Personal information includes your name, email and postal address. During the donation process you will also be asked your debit/ credit card details, the name on your debit/ credit card and your email address.

UKCEH will receive monthly reporting from Just Giving. This will include all of the above stated data with the exception of the credit or debit card details.

We will mainly use this information:

• To update you with important administrative messages about your donation
• To comply with the Charities (Protection and Social Investment) Act 2016 and follow the recommendations of the official regulator of charities, the Charity Commission, which require us to identify and verify supporters who make major gifts so we can assess risks.
• To keep a record of your relationship with us.

If you do not provide this information, we will not be able to process your donation.

How do we collect information about you?

• When you interact with us through third parties, i.e. if you provide a donation through Just Giving.
• When you visit our website: We gather general information which might include which pages you visit and which information is of most interest. We may also track when you visit links in emails. We use "cookies" to help our site run effectively 

Who has access to data?

The personal information we collect about you will be used by our staff so that they can support you.
We will never sell your personal information to other organisations. Nor do we sell any information about your web browsing activity.

We may employ a consultant to guide us in appropriate fundraising best practice and advise us on donation amounts for fundraising appeals. Consultants would be provided with the above categories of data, where possible made anonymous by excluding names and emails, in order to ascertain your ability to donate.

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law (for example, to comply with applicable laws, regulations and codes of practice or in response to a valid request from a competent authority); or, to enforce our conditions of sale and other agreements.

How does UKCEH protect your personal information?
